Milestones: 1960-2000-Battles Over the Hiawatha Corridor [150006] In the early 60's freeways made a huge impact on the face of Minneapolis, often creating barriers within neighborhoods. Similar plans were underway for Hiawatha Ave. (Hwy 55). This time the residents fought back. Explore the decades long controversy from the late 60's through the emergence of light rail.

I've heard from people that in the last cold spells the Light rail doors were manually opened by touching the round "button". This was consistent with last year during the cold spells.
